I've often (obviously just in recent years) have thought that you can have a photo contest where one tries to capture confused people trying to determine if they should pass in front of the person taking a selfie or behind them. It would be simple to capture the shot; all one would need to do is follow me as I am constantly dumbfounded by this scenario.

I did a quick overview on the lens on Wikipedia. Then I went to B&H to see if it is available and read the reviews. It appears that the Takumar design has been discontinued but they are still available on ebay (and reasonable priced at that) . But I need to read up more on this before I can make any kind of decision. On B&H the few reviews that I read on the Pentax are saying that the 100mm struggles with CA, which was my struggles with this photo. I did find some Groups on Flickr that feature Takumar and will peruse it some later this evening.

Sell me on it. Why Pentax SMC Takumar?

It looks a little grainy, which is maybe what you were striving for. Am I correct to say that Kodak did not rate their P3200 but most users rated it at 800? Why did you rate it at 500?

I'm still sitting on the fence debating if I should get a Leica M7. I am going to get a Canon M5 and adapt onto it a Leica 18/3.8, a Zeiss ZM 35/1.4, and the Zeiss ZM 50/2. (Yes, the Canon is under-kill but I suspect that will change in time and I'll just invest in the lenses now and buy better Canon Mirrorless bodies when they become available.) The M7 is going back to when I fell in love with photography many years ago but never had the resources to dive in. My debate is should I spend on film. Everything is still available, for now (chemicals, film, film scanners, etc.) Thus I now need to relearn ASA/ISO.

How do you rate a speed yourself? Is it not inherent in the film at production?

The graffiti laden truck is an appropriate background. As I was contemplating the photo, before I read your remark, I was wondering what they were protesting. Trump is seen as a nationalist and it almost appears that they support Trump (based on your previous photo) and I would think nationalists would be pro-British empire. Then there is the whole reality of the existence of a British Empire in this era; yes, the Pound is still the benchmark but as for a controlling empire it seems to me the powerbase shrunk a century ago. They, the protestors, left me scratching my head.

Getting back to your work flow queries that I brought up yesterday; you shot with color film… Do you process? Why film over sensor?

I was amazed at the detail that the camera caught behind the transparent drapes that were red. What I was seeing, and what came out in the color shot (https://www.flickr.com/photos/damessenjah/34335502412/in/dateposted/) was just the red with very little detail of what was behind the drapes.

I agree. I think my mistake was made at the time I took the shot. I should have point metered instead of averaging. I tried adjusting in post but to no avail.

That was what I was trying for. The girl is my daughter and the guy her 4th grade crush. I was trying to document the moment and pull out a subject in the midst of a crowd.

Nice candid (nice colors as well- its subtlety dark). For me, I am starting to think that street photography could be more natural with a longer lens. Everyone says 35mm or 50mm. I only own two lenses and once you compute the crop factor I basically am shooting with a 50mm and a 135mm (the lenses are a 35mm and a 100mm on a 1.6x sensor). I keep wondering what it would be like shooting the streets with something between 70-90mm. You were standing - I’m guessing - about three meters from the subjects in this shot?

I do have a second question for you here, Pete. You shot color film, do you process your own film? Or do you send out? I’m actually thinking of buying a film camera (M7) and I see a lot of write ups on processing B&W but nothing on color. I am fine if it were just B&W but if I ever picked up a roll of Color I worry I would not be able to process it here in the Philippines (especially in the remote part where I live).
