Thanks Steve, think my monitor is ok its a Dell 27" ultra which is calibrated for RBG by Dell unlike some. I use IE as my browser and when viewing in LR it does show a little more detail in the shadows - I did boot the shadow area more but didn't like the look as much.
Beautiful!. I like both of these. I might have been tempted to recover just a tad of detail in the very dark areas but that is personal. Very nice all the same. Great IQ. Regards Steve\n\n\n
Hi Steve, Thanks for your comments I did play around with dark area's but found this to be the most pleasing to me - as you say its a personal choice which might not suit everyone.
Nice B&W Paul. Displaying my ignorance, what are the advantages of the M MONOCHROM VS the conversion of a Colour File to B&W? Steve\n\n\n Hi Bajanexile, the advantages of the Monochrom are much more detail to the files and also the files are much more pliable in lightroom except for the hi lights if the hi light is blown its not recoverable unlike a colour converted file where you can usually recover one of the red green or blue channels as usually not all of those channels will be blown. Hope this helps.
Hi Paul, what's it like focusing a wide angle lens on a rangefinder? Do you have to use an external VF?\n\n\n Hi Vaperture, the Zeiss Distagon 15mm is not rangefinder coupled for focus so you just have to guess but with such a wide angle its not really necessary only on subjects less than 7ft and then only if you're shooting wide open at f2.8 as everything will be in focus from 1ft to infinity if you set the lens to say f8. All of the photo's in my profile shot with this lens have been taken without a tripod and without the 15mm finder I only use the finder for people shots. Hope this helps, by the way I love this lens and could shoot all day and every day with it its such a first class and interesting lens to work with. ;-)
Hi Torralba, Yes had to sell everything to get the Leica Monochrom and wait 7 months for it but will never go back to colour now as just love black and white with this camera . I came into a small amount of money just enough to get the Carl Zeiss Distagon 15 mm f 2.8 but never had enough money to get the finder that goes with it so all those nightime shots are taken blind its also not rangefinder coupled for foucus so you have to guess distance but that only matters when shooting wide open and at close distance. Many people find it difficult to use such wide lenses but I have used it on a few different subjects and it's becoming one of my favourite lenses.
Thanks Torralba - only got my new 15mm T* Distagom 15/2.8 ZM last week and love it - not got the viewfinder and its not rangefinder coupled but find its not a problem and yes it is a superb lens one that makes you want to go out and shoot with it. ;-)
