Somewhat difficult to explain. Certainly, digital has its advantages, but as you might see, your film portrait has a softer more natural contrast, and digital is flater. It seems that the emulsion side of the processed film, which when viewed sidewise shows an uneven surface, plays a role to film's three dimensionality. Digital, a NASA development, was originally developed for terestrial applications. I heard that great New York wedding photographers opt for film. However digital is constantly improving and is vastly more practical. Both of your photos are excellent.

Tell me more about that. I have been shooting film for about a year now, almost all B&W. I am enjoying the results, and enjoy the processing at home, but sometimes its seems to be such drudgery. People keep telling me that there are characteristics that you can only get from film. I guess it my inexperienced eyes that are failing to understand the difference. Any insight you could offer would be welcome. I am going to post another picture of the same subject, different day. but digital and processed with Silver Efex Pro. Point out any differences you can see. Thanks.
