Thanks for the thorough analysis, Washael! I suspect you are wrong on one point, though . . the Noct feels both heavier and bulkier than the APO 90, which is another favorite glass of mine . . :-)

The exposure time was critical here as the dog is moving his head, and even at 1/800 there is slight motion blur. At f2 the exposure time would have to be 1/125 (ISO200) but you could have used ISO 1600 on the NEX-7 for the same time with a Summicron 90. You would get the same DOF at 90mm f2 from a distance of 12 feet, but the FOV would be less and the horizontal crop tighter, but for this subject it would be okay. AN f2 90mm apo-Summicron would be heavier and bulkier, but quite a bit less expensive. For scenes that need a wider FOV with short DOF, there is no substitute for the 50mm 0.95 Noct.
I had to use three applications to figure all these numbers out.
