The newer versions of the Carl Zeiss lenses are surely more sharper than the C/Y old versions wide open. But the colour reproduction and rendering is very different comparing both together. That's why I kept the C/Y version of the 3514 and didn't upgrade when the new lens came out.

Both lens are great, I believe that Planar C/Y version of 1.4/50mm is better (*sharper) wide open and it has better bokeh. Other hand, I prize more ZF.2 version of Distagon 1.4/35 over C/Y version. It simple better wide open...

Very nice product photography :) Lighting and DoF are very naturals...
